‘Magnum PI’ Season 2, May 8, 2020 Episodes 19 & 20 Are The Finale. Renewed For Season 3
Hey, Magnum P.I. fans. We are back at you with another new report for your favorite show “Magnum P.I.” We have some good news and some bad news, but don’t worry. The good news is way, way better than the bad news.
We’ll start with the bad news first. Last week, we were not sure if tonight’s episodes 19 and 20 would be the finale episodes for Magnum PI’s current season 2. We have recently gotten official confirmation that it is.
That means tonight’s episodes 19 and 20, which are scheduled to air back-to-back, will indeed cap off this second season. So, you guys will not have any new episodes of Magnum PI to look forward to for quite some time. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that we have also learned that CBS has indeed greenlit Magnum PI for a brand new season 3!
That’s right, guys. You can expect to see another whole new season of Magnum PI to come down the pipeline at some point in the future. Normally, we would say in the Fall of 2020, but with the current pandemic crisis that’s going on right now, we just can’t say that for sure. It will certainly depend on how things play out in the next 2 months or so.
If it turns out that the Magnum PI crew can start filming this summer, we should see the new season 3 episodes come out in the Fall 2020 like usual. If not, it could obviously take a longer time for us to see them.
Looking at the LIVE viewership and ratings numbers for Magnum PI, we can certainly see why CBS had no problems deciding to renew it for a new season 3. It averaged 6.687 million LIVE viewers per episode and a 0.65 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics.
The last episode 18, which aired back on May 1, 2020 brought in 7.214 million LIVE viewers and a 0.70 ratings score.
This was almost a million more viewers than what the season 2 premiere episode brought in, which is terrific because the premiere episodes usually bring in the most viewers. Magnum PI’s viewership just kept growing throughout the season.
We’re not sure how many episodes season 3 will have at the moment. All we know, right now, is that it has been greenlit. We’re pretty sure this season 2 was cut short due to the pandemic crisis. Most of the CBS scripted, primetime shows’ seasons were cut short because of it.
We think CBS will assign a full season Magnum PI for its 3rd run. Of course, we’ll update you guys about that at a future date when we get official announcements from CBS.
