Magnum PI Season 5 Is Not Happening. CBS Sadly Canceled It

Hey, “Magnum P.I.” fans. This is a very sad day indeed. The worst news just happened. I knew something fishy was up when we didn’t hear of a renewal for Magnum PI before its season 4 finale episode aired last week, but I just didn’t want to believe it. Yep, CBS has, in fact, canceled your favorite show Magnum PI. It will not be getting a new season 5. Nope, it’s done.

The folks over at Deadline.com reported on it ,and they also gave some interesting insight into why Magnum PI may have been canceled. Apparently, there was some negotiation conflicts at play ,here, because Magnum had strong ratings and viewership numbers. It was one of the top 25 shows in regards to total viewers.

Deadline is telling us that there was some long and complex talks between CBS and Universal Television about the renewal of Magnum PI. Apparently, they just couldn’t reach an agreement on the license fee as lower overall linear ratings have been pushing down on what networks are willing to spend on shows.

Deadline also said another reason for Magnum PI’s cancellation could be due to CBS getting a lot of pilot dramas that are very strong, and they’re putting added pressure on these more established shows to perform well. Whatever the case, we are totally shocked and saddened that CBS didn’t renew Magnum PI for season 5. Its season 4 numbers looked pretty good to us. It averaged 5.242 million LIVE viewers per episode, and a 0.42 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics.

Magnum star Jay Hernandez did hit up his Twitter account to address the Magnum PI cancellation writing, “We made memories I’ll be forever grateful for and thanks to each and every one of you for going on this wild ride with us. It’s all love. Until next time.” You guys can view that tweet on Jay Hernandez’s official Twitter account by Clicking Here.

Juliet Higgins star Perdita Weeks also hit up social media to comment on the series cancellation writing, “That’s Aloha from us at Magnum PI. Huge thanks to everyone who made the wheels go round for four years on the wildest ride of my life. Ohana forever. And cheers to the best investigative partner a gal could have asked for.” You guys can view that post on Perdita Weeks official Instagram account by Clicking Here.

Another interesting thing we dug up about this Magnum PI cancellation is from TVLine.com . They pointed out in one of their articles that they chatted with Jay Herandez aka Magnum about the prospects of a season 5 renewal back in April 2022, and he was like us. He was very positive about it. He thought the ratings and viewership numbers looked good.

He said they even asked him about directing another episode for season 5 stating, “We’re golden. I think you could bank on that. The numbers are great. It travels well internationally. So yeah, I think we’re in good shape. And you know what, they’re happy with the show. They loved this season. A lot of the stories they were really digging. And the episode I directed, they loved to the extent that I’ve already been asked to direct another one next season.”

Again, this is very sad and shocking. RIP Magnum P.I.

This is completely outrageous! Guess there wasn’t enough nudity, foul language or lude plot lines for CBS. MY favorite show period so I’m through with CBS now.
