MasterChef July 20, 2022 Eliminated Shayne Wells (Recap)
Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, July 20, 2022, another new episode of MasterChef’s current season 12 did indeed hit the air with judges: Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sanchez, and Joe Bastianich, and another contestant was sent out the door at the end.
Tonight’s episode kicked off with the contestants learning they had to create a Southern inspired fusion dish. Chef Tiffany Cherry was brought on to be a 4th judge. Gordon and Sherry cooked a dish together to demonstrate. It was a fish and chips meal.
After all that, the contestants were given 60 minutes to complete their fusion dishes. They had to draw flags to decide which country they had to infuse into their dishes.
During the challenge, Emily revealed that she drew the Thailand flag. She said this was going to be difficult for her. Shanika said she was making a salmon dish. Fred mentioned he was making a Greek grits dish.
Shayne picked the Ethiopia flag. He said he was making a chicken fried steak dish for an Ethiopian and Southern fusion creation. He said, “This will be really hard, but I want to prove myself.”
Bri mentioned that she was making a summer role and shrimp dish to Gordon and Sherry. They gave her some advice and wished her good luck.
Bowen told Sherry and Gordon he was making a Israel herb sauce, lamb and grits dish. Gordon told him, “Get your lamb on first.” Shelly told Gordon and Sherry she was making a catfish dish.
Dara told Gordon and Sherry that she drew the Peru flag and that she was making meat patties and rice. Bowen said he messed up the time management with the lamb. “I’m really nervous,” he said with 27 minutes left.
Christian told Joe and Aaron he drew the Jamaican flag and that he was making a chicken and collard greens dish. They told him, “Good luck.” Willie told Gordon and Sherry she was making a sweet potato and butternut squash and chicken dish.
Derrick told Joe and Aaron he drew the China flag and is making a fried chicken with five spice waffle dish. Brandi told Gordon and Sherry she drew the India flag and was making a roasted rack of lamb with Indian spice dish. Sherry said, “It could work. Good luck.”
Christian said his chicken wasn’t cooking fast enough with just over a minute left. Derrick and Bowen said they felt good about their dishes after time finally ran out for the challenge. Next, the judges looked over all the dishes and picked out what they thought were the top 3 dishes. They belonged to Shelly, Emily and Christian.
Shelly presented a Spain-infused Mustard Fried Catfish with Escabeche Vegetables and Patatas Bravas dish. Gordon said, “The catfish is cooked beautifully. Great job.” Shelly said, “It all worked together.” Aaron said, “It was phenomenal.” Joe said, “This was everything we were looking for today. Good job.”
Emily presented a Thailand-infused Crispy Skin Chicken Thigh with Fish Sauce Caramel, Corn Succotash and Creamy Coconut Sauce dish. Sherry said, “There’s nothing dull about this dish.” Gordon said, “It tastes as good as it looks. It’s perfection.” Sherry said, “It’s so tasty and smart.” Joe said, “This is some next level stuff. Good job.”
Christian presented a Jamaican-infused Jerk Fried Chicken with Ginger Honey Glaze, Candied Yams and Habanero Collard Greens dish. Gordon said, “The chicken is delicious.” Sherry said, “I really liked the chicken. Well done.” Aaron said, “It’s a fusion that makes complete sense.” Joe said, “I applaud you.”
After all of that, the judges chose Christian’s dish as the best one. So, he received safety from next week’s elimination challenge. Emily and Shelly were safe this week.
Next, the judges decided that Bowen,Shayne and Bri had the bottom 3 dishes. Bowen presented a Israel-infused Rack of Lamb with Herb Sauce and Pan Fried Grit Cake dish. Gordon said, “The lamb is cooked quite nice, but the dish is badly executed.” Shelly said, “It lacks consistency across the board.” Aaron said, “You didn’t fully understand the fusion part of it, and it shows.”
Shayne served up an Ethiopian-inspired Chicken Fried Steak with Turmeric Cabbage & Potatoes, Collard Greens and Pan Gravy dish. Aaron said, “The cook on the steak is good, but it lacked seasoning.” Sherry said, “It lacked of execution.” Joe said, “A bit of life experience is missing from this dish.”
Bri delivered a Vietnam-infused Grilled Shrimp Summer Roll with Grilled Corn & Bell Pepper Filling, Carrot & Cabbage Slaw and Peanut Butter Gravy dish. Gordon said, “Visually, it’s bizzare. The slaw taste nice, but it doesn’t go with the gravy.” Sherry said, “It should never feel heavy.” Aaron said, “You did a good job with the herbs.” Joe said, “This dish looks bad, and it tastes how it looks.”
After all of that, the judges decided that Shayne had the worst dish. So, he was eliminated. Gordon told Shayne, “Tonight, you were beaten by lack of experience, but promise me you’ll continue your journey.”
Shayne said, “You can’t let your losses define you. I’m proud of what I did this season. I’m sure this industry is for me. Shayne the train out.” How do you guys feel about Shayne Wells getting eliminated in tonight’s episode? Let us know in the comments section.
