American Idol May 7, 2023 Eliminated Haven, Warren & Oliver. Top 5 Revealed (Recap)

Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, May 7, 2023, another new performances/results episode for American Idol’s current season 21 did indeed hit the air, and three unlucky singers had to say, bye bye, revealing the top 5 contestants this year. Judges Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry are currently in the United Kingdom to perform at King Charles’ Coronation Concert. So, music stars Alanis Morissette and Ed Sheeran showed up to do some judging with judge Luke Bryan.

The top 8 performed songs from Alanis’ catalog of songs while she mentored the contestants. The top 8 were also paired up for duets to sing Ed Sheeran songs.

Warren Peay kicked off tonight’s performances by singing, “All I Really Want” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said, “I appreciate that you took my notes. This is a version that I never imagined!” Ed said, “You really shined without the guitar. There was a lot of confidence.” Luke said, “I really liked your ability to work the stage. It’s fun watching you grow.”

Zachariah Smith performed, “Ironic” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said , “I saw you being in flow. A liquidity I loved.” Ed said, “I was captivated.” Luke said, “I liked the dynamics you added this week.”

Iam Tongi and Oliver Steele sang, “Photograph” song by Ed Sheeran. Afterwards, Ed said, “Your voices compliment each other. There is a crazy power singing ability. It’s gentle and soulful.” Alanis said, “Your connection is respectful. I loved your vulnerability.” Luke said, “Great job. Great arrangement.”

Haven Madison sang, “You Learn” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said, “It’s gorgeous. You have that inside out music in your body.” Ed said, “I really liked the chorus. It was captivating.” Luke said, “I liked your freedom and comfort on stage.”

Warren Peay and Wé Ani sang “Perfect” song by Ed Sheeran. Afterwards, Ed said, “I’m just loving these renditions. Thank you so much for doing it.” Alanis said, “You really indicated your massive range, emotionally too.” Luke said, “I really like your growth. It’s so fun watching you both blossom.”

Colin Stough sang, “Hand in My Pocket” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said, “I did not see that coming! Beautiful work.” Ed said, “I love how it rocked out in the end. You are doing it in a way that makes it your own.” Luke said, “You’re just so damn cute, I don’t know what to do! You’ve come so far.”

Alanis Morissette hit the stage to perform her song titled, “Thank U.” Next Zachariah Smith and Haven Madison sang, “Thinking out Loud” song by Ed Sheeran. Afterwards, Ed said, “That was really soulful, really powerful. You both are so talented.” Alanis said, “You made it seem like the song was born to be a duet.” Luke said, “I have smile cramps! You guys are turning into stars. Good vibes all the way around.”

Megan Danielle sang, “Head Over Feet” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said, “That was really soulful.” Ed said, “I felt like I was watching a classic singer from the 60s.” Luke said, “You made it real inviting. You nailed that. Your voice makes that happen.”

Ed Sheeran hit the stage to sing his song titled, “Eyes Closed.” Next, Iam Tongi sang, “Guardian” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said, “I liked the level of empathy in your voice. It’s a huge gift.” Ed said, “I felt like you were connected with the song.” Luke said, “You always light up the room.”

Wé Ani sang, “Uninvited” song by Alanis Morissette. Afterwards, Alanis said, “It was chilling to behold you.” Ed said, “This performance showcased every bit of your voice. It’s very powerful and super good.” Luke said, “It’s such a haunting song. That’s the best I’ve ever heard it.”

Megan Danielle and Colin Stough sang, “Dive” song by Ed Sheeran. Afterwards, Ed said, “Whoever put you together was a genius. You compliment each other so well.” Alanis said, “I loved your plaintive cry. It was really connected and familial.” Luke said, “I’m just smiling at our babies up on stage. It was fun watching you do the run. It was a sweet moment.”

Oliver Steele capped off the performances by singing, “You Oughta Know” song. Afterwards, Alanis said, “I love that a man was willing to take on unpopular emotions not considered masculine.” Luke said, “I know this is a big moment for you. Way to get in there and battle.”

After all of that, Host Ryan Seacrest revealed that everyone was safe except for poor: Haven Madison, Warren Peay and Oliver Steele. That means your top 5 American Idol contestants this year are: Zachariah Smith, Megan Danielle, Iam Tongi, We Ani and Colin Stough.
