Hey, “Grey’s Anatomy” fans. We hope that tonight’s episodes 19 and 20 were absolutely fantastic for you, especially since they were the very last ones for this current season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy. That’s right, guys. Grey’s Anatomy season 19 is officially a wrap as of tonight, May 18, 2023. So, it will be a while before you get to see another new episode, especially with this writers strike threatening to halt production for only God knows how long.
Anyways, we can officially confirm with you, right now, that Grey’s Anatomy was indeed renewed for a brand new season 20 over at ABC. So, Grey’s Anatomy will be back for a new set of brand new episodes at some point in the future.
According to the folks over at Deadline.com , ABC gave Grey’s Anatomy an early renewal back in March 2023. They’re also saying that Meredith Grey star Ellen Pompeo is likely to appear in some of the season 20 episodes. She is an executive producer on Grey’s Anatomy, and she also provides the voiceover that opens and closes each episode.
The current showrunner Krista Vernoff has quit the show. So, TVLine.com is reporting that executive producer Meg Marinis is taking her place.
Krista had some positive, parting words stating, “It has been the privilege of a lifetime to be entrusted to run Grey’s Anatomy for the past six years and Station 19 for the last four. The passion of the dedicated fandoms and the impact that these shows have on hearts and minds cannot be overstated. The amount of talent in these two extraordinary casts and these two brilliant writers’ rooms is beyond measure — and these crews work magic week after week.”
According to the LIVE Nielsen ratings, Grey’s Anatomy season 19 averaged 3.356 million LIVE viewers per episode, and a 0.44 ratings score for the 18-49 year old demographics. The most recent episode 18, which aired last Thursday night, May 11, 2023, managed to draw in 2.985 million LIVE viewers, and a 0.38 ratings score.
The most-viewed episode was the premiere episode 1 with 3.800 million LIVE viewers. The least-viewed episode was episode 18 with 2.985 million LIVE viewers. The highest-rated episode was the premiere episode 1 with a 0.55 ratings score. The lowest-rated episodes were episodes 14, 15 and 19. They all tied for last place with a 0.38 ratings score.
If you tack on the numbers from the streaming platforms, the average viewership per episode makes a huge leap to 10.7 million viewers. Grey’s Anatomy is ABC’s number 1 series, and it is the 5th-highest-rated drama in the demo.
