MasterChef August 2, 2023 Eliminated Sarah Fry & Purvi Dogra (Recap)

Hey, “MasterChef” fans. Tonight, August 2, 2023, another new episode for MasterChef’s current season 13 did indeed hit the air with judges: Joe Bastianich, Gordon Ramsay, and Aarón Sánchez, and two unlucky contestants got the boot at the end.

Tonight’s new episode kicked off with the contestants learning they had to do another Mystery Box challenge. Their mystery boxes contained chicken. So, they had to make a chicken dish. Each team from each region only had one butcher. They were given 60 minutes to cook the dish.

Since Jennifer won the last challenge, she got to make one of the regions start this challenge 10 minutes after everyone else. She chose the Midwest claiming, “They still have 5 people and talented cooks.” The reward for winning this challenge was an immunity pen and a game-changing advantage in the next challenge.

During this challenge, Brynn didn’t look happy about getting the chicken breast. Purvi ended up with the chicken thighs. Charles ended up working with inner parts of the chicken. Gordon was surprised by that and told him, “You’re on a different planet!”

At about the 30-minute mark, Kendal was given a warning from the judges that he needs to redeem himself after serving some not-so-great performances. Joe mentioned that Sarah is taking a big risk with a roulade dish because she’s never attempted it before. Lizzie ran into some issues because she discovered she didn’t have enough time to make the dish that she started out with.

After the 60 minutes was up, the judges walked around and took a look at the dishes. Then, they revealed that the top dishes belonged to: Brynn from the Northeast region, Kendal from the South region, Grant from the Midwest region and Kennedy from the West region.

Brynn presented a Chicken Cacciatore with Roasted Asparagus & Crispy Chicken Skin, with Chicken Liver Mousse dish. Joe said,”This dish is satisfying.”

Kendal presented a BBQ Chicken Breast with Homemade Memphis BBQ Sauce, Mashed Potatoes and Brussels Sprouts dish. Gordon said, “It’s beautifully plated. Your homemade sauce needs to be bottled and sold.” Joe said, “It’s a rare occasion that a home cook creates something the three judges can’t.”

Grant presented a Chicken Marsala with White Wine & Mushroom Sauce and Mashed Potatoes dish. Aarón said, “This is like a course I would have at a very nice restaurant.”

Kennedy presented a Crispy Chicken Thigh with Spaetzle and Braised Cabbage dish. Aaron said, “This dish is remarkably delicious.” Gordon said,”It’s cooked beautifully. It’s very crispy.” Joe said, “You’re playing this game at the highest level.”

After all of that, the judges decided that Kennedy won this challenge for the immunity pen and next challenge advantage. She also saved her entire region from elimination.

Next, the judges revealed that the worst dishes belonged to: Purvi from the Northeast region, Jennifer from the South region and Sarah from the Midwest region.

Purvi presented a Butter Chicken with Homemade Naan Bread dish. Gordon said,”This was a shocking misfire. It looks dull. The bread is raw.”

Jennifer presented a Roasted Chicken Breast with Charred Greens, Chicken Gravy and Southern Flavored Risotto dish. Gordon said,” “It looks strange. The chicken is an afterthought.” Joe said, “The risotto is overcooked. It’s not really a dish.” Aaron said, “I do like the seasoning on the chicken.”

Sarah presented a Chicken Roulade with Roasted Potatoes and Tomato & Cucumber Salad dish. Gordon said, “It’s dry. I commend your gumption, but you played this all wrong.” Aarón said, “This dish tastes like it’s from an Italian chain restaurant, and that’s not a good thing.”

After all of that, The judges decided that the worst dishes were so bad that they needed to send two people home instead of just one! They decided to eliminated Sarah and Purvi. Gordon told Jennifer, “You dodged a bullet tonight.”

Purvi told the private cams, “I will continue to become a better cook.” Sarah told the private cams, “This was not the outcome that I wanted, but this was still one of the best experiences of my life.” How do you guys feel about Sarah Fry and Purvi Dogra getting eliminated in tonight’s episode?
