American Idol April 22, 2024 Eliminated Roman & Jayna. Top 10 Revealed (Recap)

Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, April 22, 2024, another new, LIVE, performances/results episode hit the air for American Idol’s current season 22, and we found out who made it to the top 10. All the judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were on hand ,once again, to give their opinions.

The theme for tonight’s episode was Billboard No 1 hits. So, the contestants only sang songs that have been hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Popstar Meghan Trainor showed up to be a mentor for the contestants.

Tonight’s performances kicked off with Abi Carter singing, “All Too Well” by Taylor Swift. Afterwards, Luke said, “Last night was one of your most shining moments, but I don’t think that performance got there all the way. You need to work the room more.” Lionel said, “I’m glad you stretched out. Give us the end of that song.” Katy said, “Your strength is drawing people in. I don’t think you need to work the stage every single time.”

Will Moseley sang, “Starting Over” by Chris Stapleton. Afterwards, Lionel said, “I liked how you went to 100 in a few seconds. Your voice is instant identity. I love what you just did.” Katy said, “Happy to see your smile. You have such personality. Give that to your face as well. There’s more there you could give in the eyes, cheeks and the smile.” Luke said, “Act a little bit! That was a real great performance.”

Jayna Elise sang “Diamonds” by Rihanna. Afterwards, Katy said, “That was so balanced and measured. You have finally reached your 100 percent Jayna Elise. You’re such a pro.” Luke said, “Your looks are thought out. That was a timeless, professional performance. Don’t let off the gas.” Lionel said, “You take any song and turn it into you. That’s amazing. Your stage presence is something we can’t teach.”

Mia Matthews sang “Over You” by Miranda Lambert. Afterwards, Luke said, “Everything you’re doing ,right now, is star power stuff. Great job.” Lionel said, “You’ve grown so much. You’re taking control of your artistry. You’re going places.” Katy said, “It’s going to get tight. You need to bring out another card.”

Roman Collins sang, “Roar” by Katy Perry. Afterwards, Lionel says, “You have never failed to take it over the top. You have a vibe. We’re waiting for it to explode. You’re so full of church and soul power.” Luke said, “The beginning was interesting the way you arranged it.”

Jack Blocker sang, “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd. Afterwards, Katy said, “You did it again. You used that brain of yours. I like how you played a different card tonight. I think it could have been sped up. I really liked the end.” Luke said, “It was really, really cool. I wanted more energy.” Lionel said, “You have a unique sound. I smell money!”

Emmy Russell sang, “Lose You to Love Me” by Selena Gomez. Afterwards, Luke said, “You keep shining in these moments. Try to remember to love singing and have fun with it.” Lionel said, “You can’t mess up. The audience didn’t come to rehearsal. You did a great job.” Katy said, “I loved that rendition. It was very authentic for you. It one of the best vocal performances.”

Triston Harper sang, “Beautiful Crazy” by Luke Combs. Afterwards, Lionel said, “Now we know you’re actually human. You’re just not an alien! Don’t lose your power. Give us more of that angst.” Katy said, “I believed what you sang. I want to see more of the Elvis stuff incorporated.” Luke said, “It’s a different kind of night. This was a 15 year old performance.”

Julia Gagnon sang, “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan. Afterwards, Katy said, “We know you can blow. Dynamics got me believing again.” Luke said, “That was on track. Thank you for showing us all of your tricks. It was well done.” Lionel said, “That performance convinced me that you’re back in the game.”

At this point, former American Idol runner up David Archuleta returned to perform his single titled, “Hell Together.” Next, Kaibrienne sang, “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. Afterwards, Luke said, “I liked the ending a lot. It was really, really good.” Lionel said, “The crack in your voice should be your signature.” Katy said, “I think you should keep doing what you let fly last night.”

McKenna Faith Breinholt sang, “Cardigan” by Taylor Swift. Afterwards, Lionel said, “You and that cold sound is really sexy.” Katy said, “That was my favorite.” Luke said, “I liked the way you milked the moment with the quality of your voice.”

Kayko wrapped up tonight’s performances by singing, “Somebody that I Used to Know” by Gotye. Afterwards, Luke said, “You did well controlling your pitch.” Lionel said, “Wow, wow, wow.”

After all of that, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that everyone was through to the top 10 except for poor Roman Collins and Jayna Elise. They were eliminated.
