Joss Whedon Reportedly Turned Down New ‘Buffy’ Movie

According to my sources, Joss Whedon actually turned down producing the new “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” movie that was reported a while back, to be making a return to the big screen. We reported on it saying that the people who have the original rights to the “Buffy” script said they might get in touch with Joss to work on it.

According to Cinemablend ,it looks like they did indeed do that shortly after the news broke. He admitted to reporters that the producers of the new film did get in touch with his agent, and here’s what he had to say, “I believe the producers did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke. I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck.”

I’m thinking that may have been a smart move on his part since he is working on trying to keep his new show “Dollhouse” afloat after it barely got renewed for a second season. Don’t get me wrong. I think “Dollhouse” is a great show, but it had low television ratings. The only thing that kept it alive was it’s high online streaming viewership. But,anyways, I digress. To reiterate, he turned down the new “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”,and let them have it.

The producers also said they wanted to move forward without any of the original tv casts, so that’s probably another reason Joss didn’t want to touch it. I know a lot of people will still probably go to see it just because the franchise has so much of a huge following. They’ll want to at least see how it turns out.

So what do you think of a “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” movie without Joss ? Good or not ?

I think it’s a bad move. The original movie wasn’t well-received, something that was a strike against the TV show when it initially debuted. It triumphed over that stumbling block because of the talented writers and directors, and the phenomenal actors, in the cast and crew. Take them away and you don’t have anything. If they’re very lucky they’ll assemble a talented cast and crew, but to the existing fanbase, the film will at BEST be a bizarre homage to the series and nothing more. And that’s at best.

OMG man that sucks seriously i was wishing and hoping that the entire cast and crew of the show would come back for the movie which would’ve been the only way for it to work, buffy with out joss, without sarah without aylson and the rest of the scooby gang is mental it will fail the only way a buffy movie would be a good idea would be with the cast of the show i fear this will be a direct to dvd failure and that it will distort the buffyverse….
