New ‘The Rite’ Movie Delivered Intense Drama & Crazy Exorcism Thrills
New ‘The Rite’ movie delivered intense drama & crazy exorcism thrills. New Line Cinema released their new thriller/horror flick “The Rite” into theaters this weekend. I just got done checking it out,and it was pretty good. It delivered a lot of intense exorcism scenes with acting legend Anthony Hopkins. The movie stars: Anthony Hopkins, Colin O’Donoghue, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds, and Rutger Hauer.
“The Rite” revolved around characters Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue) and Father Lucas Trevant (Anthony Hopkins). Michael is an up and coming American Priest who has issues with his own faith. He has a hard time believing that the Devil exist as well as these so-called Demonic possessions. The movie would often times show flashbacks to Michael’s childhood where he first developed his faith issues when his father died.
Michael eventually travels to Italy to study exorcism with Father Lucas because his American teacher thought he needed to gain some “hands on” experience with exorcism since he doubted it so much. In just a few minutes after his arrival at Lucas’ house,he gets introduced to his first live exorcism with a girl who is pregnant and goes in and out of possessions.
Even with such convincing evidence of possession,Michael still expresses doubt in the faith. I mean the girl spits out nails, blood, her voice changes to a crazy demon’s voice, she becomes an extreme contortionist, and all other kinds of weird stuff, but Michael still swears she just needs to see a psychiatrist.
Eventually, Michael starts dealing with major issues brought about by strange dreams he’s been having about his dead father. Father Lucas tries to help him out with his issues. However, Michael gets his doubting faith put to the ultimate test when the demon possesses someone he never thought it would possess, and if Michael doesn’t get some faith fast, his life and other’s lives are in danger.
Michael and his girlfriend are in the room during the possession, and things get pretty rough. Finally, with his back up against the wall,Michael is forced to deal with his faith issues and issues with God to overcome what is getting ready to kill him. The conclusion was very intense and had me on the edge of my seat.
I thought the movie was very entertaining and interesting. However, there were some slow moments during the film in which I found myself dosing off a bit,but when things picked up,they really picked up in a major way. It featured a lot of “can’t miss,” intense moments. The exorcism scenes were pretty disturbing and convincing. I gave the movie a B grade. “The Rite” movie is in theaters now.
