American Idol April 2, 2023 Hollywood Week Round 1 Results Revealed (Recap)

Hey, “American Idol” fans. Tonight, April 2, 2023, another new episode of American Idol’s current season 21 did indeed hit the air. Tonight’s episode featured the first round of the Hollywood Week auditions. The celebrity judges: Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan were all on hand along with the forever host Ryan Seacrest.

They brought back contestants from the past to help mentor the current-day contestants in areas they were weak in. The three areas are: stage presence, confidence and songwriting. Justin Guarini and Jordin Sparks were mentors for the Stage Presence group. Clay Aiken and David Archuleta were mentors the Confidence group, and Phillip Phillips and Caitie Turner were mentors for the Songwriting group. Last season’s winner Noah Thompson also showed up to help out the contestants.

The four platinum ticket winners: Tyson Venegas, Kaylin Hedges, Cam Amen and Elijah McCormick got to sit the first round of Hollywood Week auditions out and go straight through to the second round.

After all that information was shared, we finally saw some performances. Nutsa was up first. She was mentored by Justin Guarini who was the very first season runner-up. Nutsa sang,”I Surrender” song and got a standing ovation.

Colin Stough sang, “Stoned” by Whiskey Myers after working on his confidence with one of the mentors. Sara Beth sang, “Roxanne” by Sting after working on her confidence with mentor Clay Aiken. After all of that, the judges decided to keep: Sara Beth, Nutsa and Colin. However, Sara Beth decided to quit the show to go be with her babies at home.

Next up was, Marybeth Byrd. She performed after working on her stage presence with mentor Jordin Sparks. Zachariah Smith sang, “Cold as Ice” song after working on his confidence with Clay Aiken. Katy was seen saying, “Zachariah’s a little kooky, but he’s natural.”

Hannah Nicolaisen sang an original song after working on her songwriting with mentor Catie Turner. After those performances, the judges decided to keep: Zachariah, Hannah and Mary Beth. So, they are all going through to round 2.

We Ani sang an original song after working on her stage presence with mentor Jordin Sparks, and she got a standing ovation. Olivia Soli sang, “How Will I Know to Know” song by Whitney Houston. It was just a snippet though. Malik Heard performed one of singer Yebba’s songs.

Kaeyra sang, “Black Hole Sun.” Lyric Medeiros sang, “They Just Keep Moving the Line” song from Smash after working on her stage presence with mentor Jordin Sparks. During her performance, she actually hit her mouth on the mic and started drawing blood! So, that was not good.

After those performances, the judges decided to keep We Ani, Olivia, Kaeyra and Malik, and the eliminated poor Lyric.

Paige Ann sang, “Hallelujah” after working on her confidence with mentor David Archuleta. Makayla Stacey sang, “Warrior Oh boy” song after working on her stage with mentor Jordin Sparks. Hayden Madison sang an original song titled, “Still Need You” after working on her songwriting with mentor Phillip Phillips, and she got a standing ovation. Luke Bryan was seen saying, “Hayden is a massive star.”

From this group, the judges decided to keep Paige Ann and Hayden, and they eliminated poor Madi and Mckayla.

Matt Wilson sang, “Can You Stand the Rain” song after working on his stage presence with mentor Jordin Sparks. Oliver Steele sang, “Broken Halos” song after working on his songwriting with mentor Phillip Phillips. The judges decided to keep both Matt and Oliver. So, they went through to round 2.

Fire sang, “You Say” song after working with mentor Clay Aiken on her confidence. Lucy Love sang, “Make You Feel My Love” song after working on her stage presence with mentor Jordin Sparks, and she got a standing ovation. Katy was seen saying,”That’s what we call spectacular.” The judges decided to keep both Lucy and Fire for the 2nd round.

Brayden Phillips hit the stage to sing after working on his confidence with one of the mentors. Mariah Faith sang, “I Hope You’re Happy Now” song after working on her stage presence with one of the mentors. Trey Louis sang, “Vienna” song after working with mentor Justin Guarini on his stage presence.

From this group, the judges decided to keep Mariah and Trey for round 2, and they eliminated poor Brayden.

Emma Busse performed a song, and Katy said it was spectacular. The judges decided to send Emma through to round 2.

Ashley Tankard sang “Stars” song and actually ran off the stage in tears after not doing very well. Kamron Lawson performed as well. Megan Danielle sang, “Up to the Mountain” song after working on her confidence with one of the mentors.

From this group, the judges decided to keep Megan, and they eliminmated poor Ashley and Kamron. They were also seen eliminating: Ophrah Kablan, Dany Epp, Owen Eckhard, and Keelin.

Dawson Wayne sang an original song titled, “Sour Skies. ” Kya Monee sang, “And I’m Telling You” song after working on her confidence with one of the mentors, and she got a standing ovation from the crowd that was on hand. Last up, was Iam Tongi to sing, “I Can’t Make You Love Me” song after working on his confidence with mentor Clay Aiken.

From this group, the judges decided to keep Kya, Iam and Dawson. So, they are all through to round 2. The round 2 episode is hitting the air tomorrow night, April 3, 2023 at approximately 7 pm central standard time on ABC.
