New Thor 2,The Dark World Movie Received Mixed Reviews From Top Film Critics

New Thor 2,The Dark World movie received mixed reviews from top film critics. Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures dropped their new super hero/action flick , “Thor 2: The Dark World” into theaters this weekend, and the reviews are in from the top movie critics over at metacritic.com.

It turns out that only about half of them thought it was worth a shit, while the others just didn’t. It got an overall score of 54 out of 100 across 38 reviews. We’ve listed a couple of the review snippets ,below, from some of the major review players. The film stars: Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba, Zachary Levi, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Eccleston, Kat Dennings, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Jamie S. Rich from the Portland Oregonian, gave it an 83 score out of a 100. He said, “The big battle in Thor: The Dark World is one of Marvel’s more genuinely rousing sequences. Once this movie gets warmed up, it’s warm through and through.” Neil Smith over at Total Film, gave it an 80 score. He stated, “Marvel’s man with the mallet does all that’s required of him in a breakneck sequel that’s never dark for long. Next time, though, we’ll have more Loki and fewer elves.”

Justin Chang from Variety gave it a 70 score, stating, “This robust, impersonal visual-effects showpiece proves buoyant and unpretentious enough to offset its stew of otherwise derivative fantasy/action elements.” Owen Gleiberman over at Entertainment Weekly, gave it a 67 score, stating, “Hiddleston, with pleading eyes and a mad-dog grin, plays Loki as a wounded sociopath who’s cackling at the world but seething on the inside. Which makes you realize he’s just about the only character in the movie who has an inside.”

Peter Travers at Rolling Stone, gave it a 63 score. He stated, “This Thor sequel is way funnier than any movie subtitled The Dark World has a right to be (thanks, Hiddleston). And the blowout climax pitting Thor against Malekith and the elves is excitingly staged. It’s just that waiting for the good stuff can be a real mood-killer.”

Richard Roeper from the Chicago Sun-Times, gave it another 63 score, claiming, “At times Thor: The Dark World does fire on all cylinders, with fine work from the returning cast, a handful of hilarious sight gags and some cool action sequences. But it’s also more than a little bit silly and quite ponderous and overly reliant on special effects that are more confusing than exhilarating.”

Ty Burr over at the Boston Globe, gave it a 50 score. He stated, “Has its moments of visual invention and self-aware humor, mostly when the hero’s trickster brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is around, but otherwise it’s an awkwardly plotted extravaganza.” Claudia Puig over at USA Today, gave it another 50 score, stating, “Leaden, non-involving and filled with mind-numbing computer-generated effects.”

Kyle Smith at the New York Post, gave it a pretty bad 38 score, claiming, “Dark World” is low-stakes, low-emotion, lowbrow.” Then Jeannette Catsoulis over at the New York Times, gave it an even worse 30 score. She said, “The battle scenes are as lacking in heat and coherence as the central love story.” Clearly, this movie will just come down to personal taste as usual. It’s in theaters, now. Stay tuned.
