New Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 Received Mostly Negative Reviews From Major Critics
Columbia Pictures (Sony) released their new comedy film, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” into theaters this weekend, and all the top, major movie critics have given their reviews. And oh my, my. Saying they weren’t pleased with it, is a drastic understatement as they only gave it an overall 14 score out of a possible 100 across 14 reviews at the Metacritic.com site.
The film stars: Kevin James, Neal McDonough, Shirley Knight, and Raini Rodriguez. We’ve supplied blurbs from a few of the critics, below.
Kevin P. Sullivan from Entertainment Weekly, gave it a really awful 25 grade, stating: “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 does all it was created to do: exist.”
Sara Stewart over at the New York Post, gave it a 25, saying: ” Is it never funny? No, it’s not never funny. It’s just not funny nearly often enough.”
Andy Webster from The New York Times, gave it a 20 score, saying: ” You won’t find much offensive in Kevin James’s slick, innocuous vehicle Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. You won’t find much prompting an emotional reaction in general, so familiar are the jokes and situations. If Mr. James’s character thinks of safety first, so does this movie, to its extreme detriment.”
Justin Chang from Variety, gave it a 20 score, stating: “Nothing aired by WikiLeaks could possibly be more destructive to Sony’s reputation than the release of Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, the sort of movie that goes beyond mere mediocrity to offer possible evidence of a civilization in decline.”
Frank Scheck from The Hollywood Reporter, gave it a 20 grade. He stated: “While the original was no classic, it had a few mild laughs and the plus-sized actor displayed a certain buffoonish charm. Such is not the case with this painfully unfunny, slapdash follow-up in which the title character is so relentlessly obnoxious that you’ll be cheering for the villains.”
Alonso Duralde from TheWrap, gave it a really bad 6 grade. He stated: “The humor level in the film is so moribund that it doesn’t even inspire groans or eye-rolling; instead, it figuratively puts its hands on your shoulders and pushes you deeper into your theater seat until you’ve been completely subdued by all the nothingness it has to offer.”
Joe Neumaier from the New York Daily News, gave it the dreaded 0 score, claiming: “James’ everyman appeal is stretched to the limits here, like that polyester shirt he wears.”
Finally, Christy Lemire over at RogerEbert.com also gave it a 0 score. She stated: “Think of the worst movie you’ve ever seen – a movie that didn’t make you laugh, didn’t make you cry, didn’t move you or change you in any way besides giving you the desperate urge to flee the theater.
Think of a movie that was a massive waste of your time and money. Hold that title in your mind. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 is worse than that.” Wow! Stay tuned. Also, get your favorite Movie stuff, and more by Clicking Here.
