Empire Season 6 Is Officially Happening. FOX Renewed It. Spoilers Coming Soon

Hey, “Empire” fans. We hope you guys enjoyed tonight’s big season 5 finale episode. Now that season 5 is officially a wrap, it’s time to set our eyes on season 6. We’re very happy to tell you that we can do that since it has officially been confirmed that FOX did indeed renew Empire for another season!

That means you guys can expect to see new spoilers, cast interviews, promotional photos and preview clips. All of that good stuff in the upcoming weeks and months. There is an interesting tidbit about Empire’s season 6 renewal. It has to do with character Jamal Lions portrayer Jussie Smollett.

As most of you know, he recently was involved in a major scandal. He was accused of plotting his own hate beatdown, and the cops were really mad about it because they supposedly wasted a bunch of time and money investigating what they feel was a hoax.

Anyways, Jussie got a lot of bad press out of it. So now, it’s questionable if he’ll be returning to the series. TV Line.com is saying that Jussie has been given an option for season 6, but there are currently no solid plans to bring him back.

A 20th Century FOX TV statement reads like this, “By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for Season 6, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to Empire.”

The option will extend Jussie’s contract by paying him at least a portion of his salary. That will allow them to weave Jamal back into the storyline if they decide to later on down the line.

In other words, it’s not really looking good for Jussie right now, but it’s not a totally dire situation either. It’s still quite possible that he could return. We’ve heard that Lucious star
Terrence Howard and Cookie star Taraji P Henson have been fighting for his return.

TV Line pointed out that Terrence and Taraji wrote a letter to FOX that urged them to bring Jussie back for season 6. A piece of the letter reads like this, “Together, as a united front, we stand with Jussie Smollett and ask that our co-star, brother and friend be brought back for our sixth season of Empire.” So, we’ll see if that ends up working out for them.

The President of FOX Entertainment Michael Thorn had some very positive things to say about Empire during the season 6 renewal announcement back in late April 2019. He stated, “Empire continues to break barriers with its emotionally powerful storytelling, and it remains a core part of the Fox legacy.

We want to thank everyone on the show. All of whom have done a tremendous job this season. We know there are so many more stories to tell, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for Season 6.”

During season 5, the ratings and viewership numbers for Empire dropped a lot. The season 5 premiere brought in 6.093 million viewers and scored a 1.95 rating for the 18-49 year old demographic.

After that, it slowly went down with a few jumps up here and there. Finally, the most recent episode 17 that aired on Wednesday night, May 1, 2019 brought in just 3.731 million viewers with a 1.10 demographic rating. So, Empire lost almost half its audience this season. Hopefully, those numbers can get back up in season 6.

Anyways, guys. How do you feel about Empire getting renewed for a brand new season 6? Are you happy about it? Are you sad about it? Or do you just not care one way or the other. Let us know in the comments section.
