Hey,”So You Think You Can Dance” fans. Tonight, August 12, 2019, the first of the LIVE shows featuring the top 5 girls and 5 guys did indeed air. There was no elimination tonight. Those will start in next week’s LIVE show as the America’s votes from tonight will carry over into next week’s live show.
Tonight’s LIVE show featured a boys group routine, a girls group routine, and five duets. The judges: Lauriann Gibson, Dominic “D-Trix” Sandoval, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe were all on hand to give their critiques.
Tonight’s LIVE show kicked off with the top ten dancers performing a group dance number that was choreographed by Mandy Moore.
After that, Mariah Russell and Bailey Munoz kicked off the duet performances with a jazz routine by choreographer Mandy Moore. They danced to B-52’s “Love Shack” track.
Afterwards, Lauriann told them, “I loved it. I loved the chemistry and connection.” Nigel said, “You’re small in stature but enormous in talent. It was a great routine.” Mary said, “Bailey is a big shock. I expected it from Mariah.” Dominic said, “I’m blown away by Bailey redefining what a B-boy is. I’m jealous of what I saw, and I think the standard was set very high.”
Next, Stephanie Sosa and Gino Cosculluela hit the stage to perform a hip hop routine by choreographer Luther Brown.
After their performance, Dominic told them, “Gino could do better than he just did. Stephanie was awesome.” Lauriann said, “I felt Gino killed it, and I actually felt he was better than Stephanie.” Nigel said, “I want Gino to let it go. I feel the personality needs work.” Mary said, “You both looked amazing.”
Anna Linstruth and Benjamin Castro arrived next to perform a Cha, Cha, Cha routine That was put together by choreographers Emma Slater and Sasha Farber from “Dancing With The Stars.”
Afterwards,Mary told them, “It looked like you were having the time of your lives. Anna needs to point her toes and watch her posture. Benjamin did a great job.” Dominic said, “Anna is a hip-hop dancer, and it was great.” Lauriann said, “I loved the connection. You’re humble warriors.” Nigel said, “You’re sensational ,and Anna is the best hip-hop girl I’ve seen do ballroom in the first week.”
Madison Jordan and Ezra Sosa danced a Contemporary routine from choreographer Talia Favia. Afterwards, Nigel told them, “Ezra has matured into a great partner, and Madison has started to show her vulnerability.”
Mary said, “It was glorious, pure and honest. I give props to the both of you.” She also commented on a mistake they made with missing leg placement, but Ezra fixed it by making it part of the routine. Dominic said, “This is my favorite routine of the night. I love that the imperfection of the hiccup was made perfect.” Lauriann said, “You have so much power. It was a wonderful job.”
Sophie Pittman and Eddie Hoyt did a Jazz routine by choreographer Brian Friedman. Afterwards, Lauriann told them, “Sophie nailed it. Eddie, you weren’t connected to the story.”
Nigel said, “It was a difficult routine. I felt uncomfortable with Eddie’s performance.” Mary said, “I don’t think the dance fit Eddie. Sophie nailed it.” Dominic said, “Eddie looked weak, and Sophie was stronger with the steps.”
Next, all the girls did a group contemporary routine that was choreographed by choreographer Travis Wall.
Right after that, all the guys hit the stage to perform a group hip hop number that was choreographed by Luther Brown.
And that wrapped up tonight’s first LIVE show of the season. America will vote for who they want to stay this week. Then next week, we will see two unlucky dancers get eliminated.
