Survivor May 24, 2023 Winner Revealed In Finale Episode (Recap)
Hey,”Survivor” fans. Tonight, May 24, 2023, the big finale episode of Survivor’s current season 44 did indeed hit the air, and we finally found out who won this thing at the end. Tonight’s finale episode kicked off with footage of Carolyn talking to the private cams about how Heidi played her immunity idol at the last tribal council that sent Jaime Lynn Ruiz packing and off to the jury.
Heidi told the private cams, “I didn’t want to go home with an idol in my pocket. So, I’m glad I played it.” At this point, everyone went searching for another hidden immunity idol.
Laura told the private cams, “Carson is going to beat us.” She also campaigned that to everyone. Carolyn totally agreed with Laura and echoed those same thoughts about Carson to the private cams.
Next, host Jeff Probst showed up with a new immunity challenge. In it, they had to race through obstacle courses to get keys that unlocked things at certain stages until they reached a puzzle that they had to solve for the win. Carson ended up winning it to guarantee himself a spot in the final four.
Carson also won a reward, which was a trip to the sanctuary and a feast consisting of spaghetti, meat sauce, chocolate cake and carrot cake. Carson got to chose one person to go with him, and he chose Yam Yam.
During Carson and Yam Yam’s feast, Yam Yam told Carson, “Carolyn is the biggest threat.” Carson told the private cams, “Lauren needs to go because she has a lot of friends on the jury.” Carson told Yam Yam the only way Lauren stays is if she finds an idol.”
Meanwhile, Lauren was seen campaigning to get Yam Yam out by telling Carolyn that Yam Yam campaigned for her to be a target before the last tribal council. It went over pretty convincing too because Carolyn told the private cams, “Maybe I will vote for Yam Yam to go if he’s been putting my name out there for me to go.”
Later on after Carson and Yam Yam returned from their feast, Carson told Carolyn, “I’m voting for Lauren to go.” Carson told the private cams, “Carolyn is making me really paranoid.” So, he started thinking it might be a better option to get Carolyn out. Yam Yam campaigned to Lauren to get Carolyn out.
Lauren told Yam Yam she would agree to vote off Carolyn, but she told the private cams, “I don’t trust anyone,” and she went looking for an idol. Carson again told the private cams, “I want to keep Tika together, but Carolyn is mad at Yam Yam, and she could do anything.”
At the tribal council meeting, Lauren said she thinks it will be her going home tonight, but she said, “This experience has been so life changing for me, and I’m so thankful.” After the votes were read, Yam Yam received 1 vote. Heidi got 1 vote, and Lauren got 3 votes. So, with the 3 votes , Lauren got voted off. She left gracefully, giving everyone a hug and telling them, “good luck” on the way out. Lauren told the private cams, “I’m just blessed to get the opportunity to come out here and play.”
Next, the final 4 competed in the very last immunity challenge of this season. In it, they had to keep one hand tied behind their back while catching a ball after it rolled through a maze without ever letting it drop. They had to keep adding a ball at different stages to make it more difficult. The last person standing without dropping a ball, won.
It came down to Carson and Heidi in the end, and Heidi edged Carson out for the win to guarantee herself a spot in the final 3. Heidi said she’s considering making fire even though she won immunity in an effort to get a bigger resume built up.
Yam Yam tried to help Carson learn how to make fire. Yam Yam told the private cams, “I want to see Carson give it his best and not give up even though it may cost me my game.” Carson told the private cams, “It’s pretty amazing what Yam Yam is doing for me.”
At the tribal council meeting. Heidi said she’s still contemplating making fire. Heidi ended up deciding to make fire against Carson thereby sending Carolyn and Yam Yam to the final three.
During the fire-making challenge, Heidi beat Carson with no problems. Carson did build a good fire, but Heidi was just too good. Jeff even said that Heidi made the fastest fire in Survivor history! So, that was truly incredible.
Carson said, “To get something going against the fastest fire maker in history, I’m so proud of myself.” Carson told everyone, “good luck” on the way out. So, Carolyn, Heidi and Yam Yam made it to the final 3 to pitch their case of why they should win to the jury.
Carson told the private cams, “Even though I didn’t make the final 3, I’m so proud of myself. I’m still kind of pinching myself that I made it here.”
Next, Yam Yam, Carolyn and Heidi were seen getting to enjoy a feast before they had to head to the very last tribal council meeting.
At the last tribal council meeting, Heidi, Yam Yam and Carolyn answered various questions from jury members and stated their case as to why they should win this season.
During the question and answer segment, Heidi mentioned that she integrated her social game towards the end. “I used Danny as shield to get further in the game. I controlled my emotions in this game.” She pointed out how she made fire to get Carson out because she believed he was the brains behind a lot of the moves that were being made. She also said, “I had to keep adapting to survive.”
Yam Yam mentioned, “I didn’t follow Carson’s lead all the way. I knew who the target was all the time. I knew everyone’s vote at every tribal council. I took advantage of making you think you were saving us when we were really saving ourselves.
I used everyone to get a lot of information. I took time to build real relationships with you to understand when you were being truthful with me and when you were not. I used your emotions and tells to figure out what was going on. I made myself not be a threat. I talk in a fun way to make people feel comfortable.”
Carolyn mentioned, “I was playing, but I was so underestimated. There were moments where I needed to fake some tears to get people to trust me. My strategy was putting my trust in one person (Yam Yam). I needed to play my idol on Carson to ensure Danny went home because he seemed to be the one controlling a lot of things.”
After all of that, the jury finally casts their votes for the winner. Then, host Jeff Probst revealed them immediately. Yam Yam ended up winning by landslide. He got every vote except for 1, and that 1 vote went to Heidi. Carolyn didn’t get any votes.
During the after show, Danny revealed that he was the one and only vote for Heidi. Frannie said, “Yam Yam swayed me 100 percent.” Kane said, “Yam Yam destroyed my game unilaterally because he made friends with all of my allies.”
