According to numerous news outlets, professional golfer Grayson Murray passed away yesterday, May 25, 2024. He was 30 years old. He was currently playing in the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, but then he withdrew from the second round of it on Friday, May 24, 2024. The reason for his withdraw from the tournament was that he had come down with an illness.

Now, according to CBSsports.com, his parents came forth with a statement in which they revealed that he did, in fact, commit suicide. His parents Eric and Terry Murray stated, “We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now.”

It’s reported that the PGA Tour actually considered postponing play of the Charles Schwab tournament in light of Murray’s untimely death, but his parents insisted that the tournament continue because that’s what Grayson would’ve wanted.

Jay Monhan who is the commissioner of the PGA Tour did make a statement regarding Murray’s death saying, “We were devastated to learn, and we’re heartbroken to share that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.

I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes.”
