‘Riverdale’ Just Recently Received The Best News Ever From The CW

Hey “Riverdale fans. Happy Sunday. We hope you’re enjoying your weekend. If for some reason you’re not, we’ve got some super great news we think might cheer you up at least a little bit. It turns out that The CW has already decided which of their shows they want to renew for a brand new season.

And guess what? Riverdale made the cut! That’s right guys. Your favorite show is now officially scheduled to return for a brand new season 3! According to the folks over at TV Line, The CW also renewed their other top shows: “Arrow” for season 7, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” for season 4, “Legends of Tomorrow” for season 4, “The Flash” for season 5, “Jane the Virgin” for season 5, “Riverdale” for season 3, “Supergirl” for season 4, “Supernatural” for season 14, “Black Lightning” for season 2 and “Dynasty” for season 2.

Earlier this month, The CW also decided to renew “iZombie” for season 5 and “The 100” for season 6. So, if any of you are also fans of any of those other shows that were renewed, that’s even better news, right?

On the unfortunate side of things, The CW did decide to cancel: “Life Sentence” and “Valor.” The “Life Sentence” show starred former “Pretty Little Liars” Aria starlet Lucy Hale. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if she attempts to get a spot on that new Pretty Little Liars spin-off show “The Perfectionists.” We are hearing rumors about it already. We’ll have to wait and see.

Anyways, getting back to this wonderful “Riverdale” season 3 renewal news, The CW network president Mark Pedowitz gave a very positive statement for all the renewed shows. He said, “As The CW expands to a six-night, Sunday through Friday schedule next season, we are proud to have such a deep bench of great returning series for 2018-19. By picking these 10 series up for next season, we have a terrific selection of programming to choose from when we set our fall schedule in May with more still to come.”

It’s currently unknown how many episodes the new season 3 of Riverdale will feature, but we’re hoping they get another 22 episodes at least. We’ll definitely let you guys know when we find out. We’re also expecting to find out what the new season 3 premiere date is. I’m guessing that will be revealed in maybe late June or early July 2018.

Looking at the ratings and viewership numbers for season 2, it looks like the show barely kept afloat. The CW must have very low standards for renewing a show. The Riverdale season 2 premiere episode was the strongest numbers-wise. From then on, the numbers just kept on falling. The premiere brought in 2.342 million viewers, and scored a 0.80 rating for the 18-49 age demographics.

Again, the numbers after that just kept gradually falling, and have never really found their way back. The most recent episode 21 which aired this past Wednesday, May 9, 2018 brought in 1.0 million viewers, and received a 0.40 rating for the 18-49 age groups. We certainly hope those numbers can rebound in season 3. If they don’t, it’s going to be hard for them to land a new season 4. That’s for sure.

However, we are hearing that these low season 2 numbers were actually better than the first season. So, maybe they are pretty safe with the numbers. I guess The CW must have much lower standards than regular network TV like ABC, CBS and NBC. Anyways, we hope that Riverdale can stick around for many more seasons to come.

Currently, we haven’t heard any new plotlines they have in store for season 3, but we definitely expect to hear some after the finale episode 22 airs this Wednesday night, May 16, 2018. When the new season 3 initial details pop up, we’ll definitely let you guys know.

Riverdale airs every Wednesday night at 7 pm central standard time on The CW. Stay tuned. Also, be sure to follow us on our Riverdale Facebook page for more Riverdale news by Clicking Here.
