Tough As Nails July 30, 2023 Winner Revealed In Finale Episode (Recap)

Hey, “Tough As Nails” fans. Tonight, July 30, 2023, the very last, new episode of Tough As Nails current season 5 did indeed hit the air, and we finally found out who won this thing at the very end of it.

Tonight’s new episode kicked off with the final 4 contestants: Jessica, Kenji, Todd and Ben getting served another individual competition to decide who would end up in the final 3 and compete for the grand prize. This individual competition came with a $10,000 dollar prize for the first person to complete it.

In this challenge, they had to drive a 40-feet long trailer truck to pick up things and load them on the truck. They had to load 12 tires, some heavy concrete cinder blocks and 20 bags of soil. After they collected everything, they had to drive their trucks to the finish line without anything falling off and plant a flag for the completion.

They were paired into two heats for this competition. Kenji went up against Ben. Kenji fell behind Ben pretty early on and started panicking a bit. He could never catch up and Ben won their heat. Kenji still finished it to try and get a good time because the slowest two times had to do an Overtime challenge.

Jessica went up against Todd, and Todd won their heat. After that, host Phil Keoghan revealed that Todd got the fastest time. So, he won this challenge to claim the $10,000 dollars and his spot in the final three. Ben took 2nd place to land in the final 3 and narrowly avoid having to do the overtime challenge. Jessica and Kenji had the slowest two times, so they had to do the Overtime challenge.

In the Overtime challenge, Jessica and Kenji had to get electricity running to 4 lights. To do this, they had to run and pick up a conduit pipe and connect it together. Then, run wire through it and make the electrical connections to hook up the lights. Jessica ran into issues with her wires getting stuck in the conduit pipes. Kenji faced similar issues, but they kept hustling to get the job done. In the end, Kenji proved to be just fast enough to edge out Jessica for the win and the 3rd spot in the finals.

Jessica was eliminated. She told the private cams, “This show was definitely uncharted territory for me. I learned that I have it within in me to thrive under pressure and push harder. Even though I lost, I’m not a failure. I learned to be proud of myself and what I can do.”

After all of that, it was time for the final, individual competition of this season. It featured a gauntlet that contained elements of all the competitions they’ve done this season. It was crazy. It had to be the longest competition to date. Phil told them, “I feel exhausted just explaining it all to you.”

In this final challenge, Keni, Ben and Todd had to get on an ATV and crash it through a wall. Next, they had to roll blocks of sod and put them in a tube until they had enough in the tube to push out a bolt cutter out the other end.

Then, they had to use the bolt cutter to cut and release a ladder. From this point, they had to use a stake to drive metal posts into a log. Kenji got really hung up on this one because he kept trying to just use the weight of the stake when it required him to use his full body weight. Unfortunately, This was a fatal mistake for him in this competition.

After driving metal posts into a log, they had to climb up the ladder they just released to get up on a platform. Then, they had to throw rocks into a metal bin until the weight caused it to drop down. After that, they had to unbolt a cage that was attached to a metal tunnel platform. They had to run through the tunnel and torch away a cage at the other end of the tunnel to get out of it.

After they got out of the tunnel, they had to make a tire ladder to get on top of another platform. Once they got on the platform, they had to shave a wooden board down far enough to fit it through a slot to make a bridge that allowed them to cross over to another platform.

Once they got on the other platform, they had to unwind a huge log until it tipped over onto another platform. Then, they had to quickly attach enough pegs to the wooden log to allow them to climb it and get on the platform and grab the key fob for the new Ford pick-up truck and the win.

It came down to Ben and Todd in a very close race to the finish, but Ben was just able to edge out Todd by a few seconds to claim the victory! So, Ben won a new Ford pick-up truck, $200,000 dollars and the Tough As Nails season 5 champion bragging rights. Congrats to Ben Dempsey for the win. Even though Kenji fell way behind, he did end up completing the challenge. So, good for him. He felt very accomplished for being able to do that.
